When to visit St. Kitts and Nevis

St. Kitts and Nevis are warm all year: daytime temperatures sit around the high 20s °C (low to mid 80s °F) in every month. The choice of when to come is really about rain, crowds and what's on.

Dry season: December to April

This is peak season. The weather is at its driest and the islands are at their busiest. Hotel rates are highest, and it pays to book rooms and car hire well ahead, especially over Christmas and New Year.

Wetter months: May to November

Rain picks up from May, and it's heaviest from about July to November, though it often comes as passing showers rather than whole wet days. These months are quieter and usually cheaper. May and June are a good compromise: the winter crowds have gone, and the wettest months are still to come.

What's on, month by month

• Late June: the St. Kitts Music Festival at Warner Park in Basseterre. The 2026 edition, the 28th, ran from 25 to 27 June.
• Late July to early August: Culturama on Nevis, around Emancipation Day. More on Culturama.
• 19 September: Independence Day, marking independence from Britain in 1983.
• Mid-December to 2 January: Sugar Mas, the national carnival, with J'ouvert on 26 December and the Grand Parade on New Year's Day. Sugar Mas 55 dates.

Which side of the island to swim

Whatever the month, the sea behaves differently on each coast. The Atlantic (east) side of St. Kitts is rougher, with stronger currents and undertow. The Caribbean (west and southwest) side is calmer and better for swimming and snorkelling. At Frigate Bay you get both: an Atlantic beach on one side of the isthmus and a Caribbean one on the other.
